The Next "BIG DEAL" for HONDA'S

At Endyn we equate the Honda B series engine to the small block Chevy in the domestic performance world. It's proven to be a readily available (and affordable) power plant for thousands of Honda enthusiasts over the years, however, since Honda stopped producing them for production several years ago, finding usable VTEC head cores has become increasingly more difficult. The situation is further aggravated by the fact that all Honda B16 heads produced since 1998 suffer from severe casting core-shift, necessitating additional material be added on the intake long-side bowls, and on the exhaust short-sides to achieve the same flow rates possible with earlier head castings. Most of the earlier head castings out there are so "used-up" that they require welding, new valve seats, new guides, etc, making their use an expensive proposition. Add in the cost of new rocker arms ($1200.00) and large-top lost motion assemblies ($32.00 each), the the total cost really goes through the roof. While new GSR (P72) heads are usable (their casting quality is fine), all new B16 head castings are useless. The only alternate source for new heads had been the ill-fated Top-Line / Comp / RHS Honda B series casting, but at $800.00 to $1000.00 per head, they were cost prohibitive, especially since you still had to purchase rocker arms, shafts, LMA's etc, etc

A year ago we were approached by a company (DHP) that was manufacturing an all-aftermarket B series head. After purchasing a head, we found a long list of problems that basically made the head of no use, as either a bolt-on replacement, or as a core piece for modification. Since reporting all of the head's issues, we agreed to help them develop a head that's a true inexpensive bolt-on, that'll out perform any stock Honda head, and offer business's like our own a core piece that's a better candidate for modification.

The picture below shows the latest prototype. We are in the process of making three key improvements, and the final heads will be in production and available by early Spring 2008.

As you can see in the picture above, we opted to make the heads LS/VTEC friendly by machining both sides for dowels, and tapping the deck VTEC oil hole. All of the appropriate plugs are also included. We also decided to produce a version of the head with open GSR quench-style combustion chambers, for increased compression and detonation resistance in specific performance applications.

In this picture you can see the GSR flat-quench head, as well as the more conventional B16-style chambered head in the back ground.

We've spent a full year developing the intake ports. Right now, we are in the process of making final updates to the ports for release on the final production head in a couple months. All conventional B16 manifolding will bolt on and align just like on OE heads.

On the exhaust-side, all conventional manifolding is a bolt-on. We've also attempted to make all of the ports more similar than in the factory offerings that have radically different porting for cylinders 1&4 vs. cylinders 2&3.

As can be seen, the vacuum casting technology used in production is absolutely first class, netting heads that are exceptionally clean with less shift and less flash than OE castings.

There heads, purchased bare, will come complete with cam caps, spray bars (and bolts), as well as all oil and rocker shaft plugs and crush washers. There will also be a complete head assembly option. The complete head will come with rocker shafts, VTEC rocker arms, 33x28mm intake and exhaust valves, valve springs, spring seats, keepers, retainers, lost motion assemblies (with larger tops and more travel than factory ITR units), and our version of 1998 ITR cam shafts. Exact pricing on the heads has yet to be determined, but the bare head should be available for less than $500.00, and the complete head for less than $900.00.....and that makes these the deal of the century. Individual head components such as rockers and LMA's will be available too. In addition to selling the heads, we will also be offering inexpensive Roller-Wave piston and rod kits for those looking to assemble killer LS/VTEC engines.
